03How do you install shaders with Iris?
Iris is the shader mod to use on 26.3. It has 26.3 builds for Fabric and NeoForge.
- Download the Iris Installer from irisshaders.dev. It installs Iris and Sodium for you.
- Pick Minecraft 26.3 and click Install.
- Launch the new Iris profile in the Minecraft Launcher.
- Go to Options > Video Settings > Shader Packs.
- Click Open Shader Pack Folder and drop the shader
.zipin. Don't unzip it. - Select the pack and click Apply.
Prefer to do it by hand? Install Fabric Loader for 26.3, then put Iris and Sodium from Modrinth into your mods folder. On Modrinth or CurseForge you must add Sodium yourself.
Shader packs barely depend on the game version. As Photon's developer puts it, if Iris works on a version, the pack usually does too.
04Can you use OptiFine for shaders on 26.3?
Not yet. As of October 30, 2026, the newest OptiFine on its official downloads page is a preview for 26.2 (HD U K2 pre5). There is no OptiFine build for 26.3.
If you need OptiFine, you would have to play 26.2 or older. For 26.3, use Iris.
Good news: every pack on this list supports both Iris and OptiFine according to Modrinth, so you can switch loaders later without changing packs.
05How do you fix shader lag or crashes?
Shaders are heavy. If your game stutters or won't load, try these in order:
- Pick a lower profile in the shader's settings, like Low or Potato.
- Cut render distance. 8 to 12 chunks is plenty for most players with shaders.
- Lower shadow quality and distance. Shadows are often the biggest cost.
- Turn off volumetric clouds, fog and motion blur if your pack has them.
- Update your graphics drivers. Old drivers cause many black-screen and crash bugs.
- On a laptop, make sure Minecraft runs on the dedicated GPU, not integrated graphics.
Still crashing? Remove other mods one by one. Some mods don't play well with Iris.
06Does Bedrock have shaders or Vibrant Visuals?
- Bedrock doesn't load Java shader packs. Instead it has Vibrant Visuals, Mojang's built-in graphics mode with directional lighting, PBR textures and volumetric fog. It arrived in Bedrock 1.21.90 on supported devices.
- Java does not have Vibrant Visuals yet. Mojang says it is coming and is moving Java's renderer to Vulkan first. No release date is confirmed.
- On Nintendo Switch 2, Vibrant Visuals support was announced for October 27, 2026.

Shaders are client-side, so they work on multiplayer servers that allow them. CHEAT SMP runs Java 26.3, and every cheat power is server-side, so you can play with no mods at all. Check the FAQ, then join at play.cheatsmp.dev. It is Java only for now; Bedrock and Switch players can't join yet.
