CHEAT SMP vs DonutSMP: two economy SMPs, two different games

DonutSMP is a large, trade-heavy economy SMP with semi-anarchy rules and Java plus Bedrock access. CHEAT SMP is a Java economy SMP (Bedrock players can join too) where you earn real cheat powers by playing, pay for them in Heat, and trade on a live market that scales with the player count.

01The short answer

Both servers are built around money. You grind, you sell, you trade, you flex. The difference is what sits on top of the economy.

On DonutSMP the economy is the game: auction flipping, buy orders, spawners and a premium currency called Shards, according to the community-run DonutSMP Wiki. On CHEAT SMP the economy feeds a power system. You unlock abilities like Dash, Short Flight and Shockwave with Patches, and every use builds Heat that can make you WANTED if you push it with PvP on.

If you want a pure trading grind with a huge crowd, DonutSMP is a strong pick. If you want your grind to unlock legit cheats and your money to move on a live market, read on.

03What DonutSMP does well

DonutSMP is run by YouTuber DrDonut, per Sportskeeda, and that audience shows up in a busy marketplace. The community wiki describes a layered economy: /sell for quick cash, an auction house where sellers set their own prices, and /orders where buyers post requests that suppliers fill. Spawners double as farm equipment and tradeable assets.

It also lets Bedrock players in, which CHEAT SMP can't do yet. If your friends are on console or phone, that matters.

One thing to check for yourself: the community wiki reports that since June 2026 Shards can no longer be earned in-game and must be bought from the store, and the Shard Shop sells spawners and max-enchanted gear. Read DonutSMP's current store and rules before you decide how you feel about that.

04How CHEAT SMP's economy is different

CHEAT SMP runs one Market Index across every price and reward. It follows how many players were active in the last 14 days: about 1x under 30 players, 4x at 100, 35x at 500 and 120x at 1,000. It moves slowly, up to +5% a day and down 2% a day.

Rewards grow slower than prices (index^0.93), so a bigger server is a harder grind. Flood a material and it pays as low as 35% of base. Sell something nobody else sells and you get up to +25%. Base Sell Chest prices start at 18 for a diamond and 22 for ancient debris.

05Powers instead of purchases

The big split is what money can and can't buy. On CHEAT SMP, Patches unlock powers and they cannot be bought. You earn them from daily contracts, events and opted-in PvP wins, capped at 60 a day, with +50% in your first week.

The store at /pricing sells ranks, Gems and cosmetics: name tags, trails, pets, power skins. Paid plans add extra homes and claims. Nothing in it adds a power. That's the core rule, and it's why we wrote our no pay-to-win page.

06Who should pick which

  • Pick DonutSMP if you want a big, established trading scene, you play on Bedrock, or you like loose semi-anarchy rules.
  • Pick CHEAT SMP if you want abilities you earn, a market that reacts to the server, and risk you control: PvP is opt-in with /pvp, and only PvP-on players can go WANTED.

Plenty of players run both. They scratch different itches.
