01What is a Minecraft economy server?
Vanilla Minecraft has no money. Villager trades use emeralds, and that is about it. An economy server adds a currency through plugins, then builds a loop around it: you earn money by mining, farming, fighting or trading, and you spend it on gear, land, ranks or other players' items.
Good economy servers usually share a few traits:
- Several ways to earn, so miners, fighters and traders all have a path.
- Money sinks that pull cash out of circulation, so prices do not explode.
- Safe trading, so nobody gets scammed in a drop-trade.
- A reason to keep earning after you already have diamond gear.
The hard part is inflation. When a server grows, more people mine more diamonds, and a fixed sell price stops meaning anything. CHEAT SMP was built around that problem.
02How the CHEAT SMP economy is structured
There are three currencies, and each has one job:
| Currency | What it is for | How you get it |
|---|---|---|
| Cheater Cash | Main money: shop, potions, tool upgrades, Blueprints, bounties | /daily, Sell Chests, auctions, trades, arenas, Cheat Cup, contracts, events, bounty kills |
| Cheater Gems | Cosmetics | About 1 per day from playing and events; also sold in the store |
| Patches | Unlocking cheat powers and loadout slots | Contracts, events, opted-in PvP wins. Cannot be bought. |
Splitting progression (Patches) from money (Cash) means a rich player cannot buy their way to powers. You can read more on that in Patches and progression.
03How does the live Market Index work?
Run /market in game. One Market Index scales every server price and reward based on how many players were active in the last 14 days.
| Active players (14 days) | Market Index |
|---|---|
| Under 30 | About 1x |
| 100 | 4x |
| 500 | 35x |
| 1,000 | 120x |
| 2,500 | About 450x |
The index moves slowly: at most +5% a day up and -2% a day down. Every +10% triggers a server-wide MARKET UPDATE announcement, so nobody gets surprised.
Two extra rules keep it honest. Rewards rise slower than prices (they follow index to the power of 0.93), so a bigger server is a slightly harder grind, not an easier one. And if players sit on huge piles of cash, prices inflate further, up to 2.5x. Hoarding does not pay.
04Supply and demand on what you sell
On top of the index, each material has its own demand. If everyone dumps the same ore, that ore pays as little as 35% of its normal value. If nobody is selling something, it pays up to +25%.
That changes how you play. On a fixed-price server, you farm the best ore forever. Here, the smart move is to watch what the crowd is flooding and sell what they are ignoring. The full playbook is in how to make money on CHEAT SMP.
05Where the money goes: built-in sinks
An economy needs exits for cash, or it inflates. CHEAT SMP has a lot of them:
/shopfor food, iron, gold, diamonds, emeralds, pearls and torches/potions: Miner's Haste, Swift Step, Fortune Draught/toolupgrades across 5 levels- Sell Chest tokens and the Blueprint Shop
- Player bounties, held in escrow (see bounty server guide)
- The auction house, which charges a sales tax on every sale
06Prices vs rewards: the grind gets harder as the server grows
Because rewards follow the index to the power of 0.93 while prices follow the full index, the gap widens as the player count climbs. Here is the rough math:
| Market Index | Prices scale by | Rewards scale by (about) |
|---|---|---|
| 4x | 4x | 3.6x |
| 35x | 35x | 27x |
| 120x | 120x | 86x |
| 450x | 450x | 293x |
Translation: on a busy server, the same shop item takes more play to afford. Early players are not locked out of the economy forever, and late joiners still get rewards that track the market. The numbers on your screen just get bigger for everyone at once.
