01What counts as pay-to-win?
Pay-to-win (P2W) means real money buys an edge in the game itself: stronger gear, exclusive kits, faster progression or abilities free players cannot get. On a survival server, P2W shows up as paid kits, paid /fly, paid enchants or ranks that make you stronger in fights.
Not everything paid is P2W. Most players are fine with cosmetics and small convenience perks. The line is whether a free player can still compete.
The quick test: if two players have the same skill and play the same hours, does the one who paid win more fights? If yes, it is pay-to-win. On CHEAT SMP, the answer is no, because every power and every Patch comes from playing.
02What Mojang's rules say
Mojang's Minecraft Usage Guidelines allow servers to charge for some things, with limits. Servers may sell cosmetics (except capes), and may sell gameplay-affecting entitlements only if they "don't ruin other players' experience or give a competitive advantage in the game." In-game currencies must have no real-world value and cannot be cashed out.
So "no pay-to-win" is not only a nice promise. It is close to how Mojang wants servers to work.
Servers interpret the guidelines in different ways, which is why it pays to read a store page closely before you commit to a server. Look at what each item actually does in game, not just what it is called.

04What you can never buy
- Powers. Dash, Short Flight, Shockwave and the rest unlock only with Patches. See Patches and progression.
- Patches. They come from contracts, events and opted-in PvP wins only.
- Legendary cheats. One of each exists; you take them in game. See Legendary cheats.
- Hearts. The store doesn't sell hearts or Stolen Heart items. Extra max hearts come only from winning opted-in PvP fights, up to 20.
- Competitive titles. CUP CHAMP, MOST WANTED, BETA CHAMP and others come from playing. All titles are cosmetic.
Gems are sold, but Gems are for cosmetics. They do not unlock powers, Patches or gear. The Season Pass (/pass) works the same way: it is about looks and rewards, not combat stats.
05Even paying players help free players
When someone buys from the store, the whole server gets a fireworks show and a 15-minute XP boost for everyone online. That lines up with the guidelines' idea that server-wide rewards are fine.
Gems are also earnable for free: about 1 a day from playing and events, plus arenas, the Cheat Cup and The Rat. Free players can get cosmetics too, just slower.
Subscriptions can be canceled any time and run until the end of the paid period. Payments go through Stripe. Gift cards and 30-day gift plans also exist, so a friend can cover a rank for you.
