Cheat Cup: the weekly Minecraft tournament on CHEAT SMP

The Cheat Cup is CHEAT SMP's weekly tournament, every Saturday at 6 PM Central. It's three rounds (Dash Duels, Ore Rush, Shockwave King) with the last round worth 1.5x, and first place takes 15 Gems and the CUP CHAMP title.

No team? Join solo. Have a crew? Invite up to three others with /cup team invite before it starts.

The Cup is the weekly competitive anchor. Arenas are where you practice every day; the Cup is where it counts on the leaderboard.

Time zones: 6 PM Central is 7 PM Eastern and 4 PM Pacific.

02The three rounds

RoundGameWeight
1Dash Duels1x
2Ore Rush1x
3Shockwave King1.5x

The last round counts 1.5x, so a team that's behind after two rounds is still alive. A team that's ahead can't coast. If your crew has a Shockwave King specialist, that's who you build around.

All three games also run every day in the arenas, so you can practice any day of the week.

Everyone who plays also gets 40 Season Pass XP and 50 Cheater Cash. The champion gets the "CUP CHAMP" title. Cup wins land on the cup leaderboard and in the Hall of Infamy.

For scale: Gems normally come at about 1 a day from playing and events. A Cup win is 15.

Placing isn't the only payout. 50 Cheater Cash and 40 Season Pass XP go to every player, so a team of four that finishes outside the top three still pulls in 200 cash and 160 XP between them, before the market index.

04Team strategy for the Cup

Teams are capped at 4, and the rounds test different things. Spread your team's strengths across them:

  • Round 1, Dash Duels. Whoever has the sharpest feel for Dash's 7-block range and 12-second cooldown.
  • Round 2, Ore Rush. Whoever reads terrain and finds ore fastest. Miner and Explorer players often practice this daily.
  • Round 3, Shockwave King. Counts 1.5x. Your most consistent player, because a lead here is worth more than anywhere else.

The weighting means a third-round win is worth one and a half of an earlier round. If your team trails by less than that after round 2, you're still in it. Practice the round you're weakest at in the arena during the week.

05How to prepare during the week

  • Run your 10 rewarded arena matches. They're the same three games, and they pay 3 Gems per win.
  • Learn Dash timing. 7 blocks, 12-second cooldown.
  • Learn Shockwave range. 5 blocks, 28-second cooldown. It's the round that counts 1.5x.
  • Lock in your team. Max 4, invited with /cup team invite.
  • Use solo practice if nobody else is queued: 75 seconds, no rewards.

Also make sure everyone on your team knows the start time and has played each of the three games at least once in the arena, where loaner kits mean practice costs nothing but time.

06Saturday night: Cup, then ANTICHEAT.EXE

The Cup starts at 6 PM Central. One hour later, at 7 PM Central, Saturday's Reality Crash event is ANTICHEAT.EXE, the boss fight. That's two events back-to-back. Plan to stay on.

07Common Cup mistakes

  • Showing up at 7. The Cup is 6 PM Central. 7 PM is Reality Crash.
  • Forgetting the time zone. It's Central time, America/Chicago.
  • Giving up after round 2. Round 3 counts 1.5x.
  • Trying to bring a fifth teammate. Max 4.

08Your first Cup

Not playing this week? /cup spectate lets you watch. It's a good way to see how other players use Dash and Shockwave before you queue yourself, and Cup wins show up in the Hall of Infamy afterward if you want to look up past champions.

Spectating doesn't pay the participation rewards, though. If you're online at 6 PM Central anyway, joining gets you 50 Cheater Cash and 40 Season Pass XP even if you finish last.

The Cup needs only 2 players to run, so even quiet Saturdays can host one. Everyone gets 50 Cheater Cash and 40 Season Pass XP just for playing, so there's no reason to skip it.
