Minehut isn't one SMP. It's a network that hosts thousands of them. Per the Minehut Wiki, it started on November 28, 2014, launched hosting in January 2015, has hosted over 12.5 million servers, and has been owned by GamerSafer since February 2024.
That scale is the point. Minehut is a toolbox, and the quality of any one server depends on who runs it.
So "Minehut SMP" can mean two things: the official SMP world Minehut runs, or any community SMP on the platform. CHEAT SMP is a single dedicated server with one ruleset and one economy.
02What Minehut does well
The pitch is access. Minehut's site says you can create a server in seconds with no downloads, port forwarding or credit card. Free Starter servers get 10 player slots and 1GB of RAM, sleep when empty and wake when someone joins. Paid plans raise slots to unlimited and RAM up to 14GB.
It's crossplay too: Java players use mc.minehut.com, Bedrock players use bedrock.minehut.com. The official SMP at smp.minehut.gg lists land claims, an economy, dungeons, and Jobs and Skills, and there's an official Lifesteal world at lifesteal.minehut.gg.
When we checked minehut.com on Oct 30, 2026, it showed 4,499 players and 1,395 servers online.

04The trade-off with player-run worlds
Small hosted SMPs can be great. You get a tight group and an owner you can DM. They also depend on that owner. A free server with 10 slots and 1GB of RAM has a ceiling, and features vary wildly from one server to the next.
CHEAT SMP runs on Paper with GrimAC, a chat filter that hides phone numbers, emails and links, and /report for problem players. The ruleset doesn't change when you hop worlds, because there's one world.
Ages 13 and up can play, and staff can mute. Bad words get masked automatically. It's a single place with consistent standards, which some players and parents prefer.

06Who should pick which
Pick Minehut if you want to host your own world free, play crossplay with Bedrock friends, or browse lots of small servers. 07Playing with friends on each
Minehut's big advantage for friend groups is ownership. You create the server, share the address, and set the rules. If everyone on your list fits in 10 slots and you don't mind the server sleeping when nobody's on, the free tier covers it.
CHEAT SMP takes the opposite approach. You don't own the world, but you also don't run it. Your group joins a shared public map and can still keep its own space. /claim protects your chunks, /sethome saves your spots, and /crew sets up a crew. Cheat Cup teams go up to 4 with /cup team invite.
