SMP for beginners: your first day, step by step

01What to expect on your first SMP

An SMP is a shared survival world. Everything you know from single-player still applies: punch trees, craft tools, survive the night. The differences are other people, server commands, and rules.

The most common beginner mistakes on any SMP are building in the open without protection, trusting drop-trades, and wandering into PvP. CHEAT SMP covers all three, and this guide shows how.

CHEAT SMP adds one more difference: powers. You will be able to Dash and ping ores within your first minutes. It sounds like a lot, but the tutorial introduces one thing at a time.

02Your safety net as a new player

You also spawn at a random personal spot, not a crowded shared spawn.

Use that window. The first 30 minutes are the best time to explore, gather wood and stone, and find a base spot without worrying about other players. Turn PvP on later only if you want to fight, bounty-hunt or earn Patches from PvP wins.

03The tutorial, step by step

  1. Join play.cheatsmp.dev on Java 26.3 and run /survival.
  2. About 20 seconds later you get your first cheat: Dash, a 7-block burst the way you face.
  3. Mine 10 ores. You also start with Ore Ping, which pings ores within 12 blocks.
  4. Pick a Cheat Pack with /pack. Miner and Speedster are free.
  5. Use a power. That pays +5 Patches.
  6. Run /sethome. That pays +5 Gems.
  7. Done. Already know the ropes? /skiptutorial.

04Which Cheat Pack should a beginner pick?

  • Miner if you want money early. The Super Pick drops ores already smelted (worth 50% more) and has a quick X-Ray. Read Miner pack.
  • Speedster if you want to explore. Rocket Boots give Double Jump, extra speed and Feather Falling IV, so falls hurt less. Read Speedster pack.

Builder unlocks at 50 Patches and Explorer at 100, so you can grow into them later.

Your pick is not a life sentence. Packs level up as you play, and you will unlock more of them as your Patches grow. Choose the one that matches what you want to do tonight.

05Your first hour: a simple plan

  1. Claim your base. Stand in the chunk and run /claim create. Guide: claims and homes.
  2. Place a bed inside it. You respawn at your bed first.
  3. Claim /daily. 75 Cheater Cash plus a streak bonus.
  4. Mine and sell. Ores sell for Cheater Cash. Diamonds are 18 each at base.
  5. Try an arena. /arena uses loaner kits, so you lose no real gear.
  6. Show up at 7 PM Central for the nightly Reality Crash event.

07Goals for your first week

  • Keep your /daily streak alive for 7 days to earn 7 DAY STREAK.
  • Reach 25 Patches for Ghost Bridge, then 40 for Short Flight. Your +50% first-week bonus helps.
  • Master Dash by using it 25 times.
  • Try one Reality Crash event and one arena match.
  • Find your first custom item. About 1 in 8 loot chests has one.

08Beginner tips that save you pain

  • Watch your Heat. Powers add Heat up to 100. If you turn PvP on and overheat, you go WANTED and hunters come for you.
  • Trade with /trade, never by dropping items.
  • Keep PvP off until you are ready. Turning it on is your choice.
  • Use the first week. You get +50% Patches as a new player.
