01Public vs private SMP: what is the difference?
SMP stands for survival multiplayer. The server is the same idea either way. Who gets in is what changes:

Private SMPs are great when you already have a group. A public SMP is for when you want to play now and meet people while you do.
There is no wrong answer. Plenty of players run a private server with friends and also play on a public one when the group is offline. If your friends want to come along, see playing with friends.
02What a good public SMP needs
- Protection for new players, so you are not killed the minute you spawn
- Land claims, so strangers cannot grief your base
- Anti-cheat, so hacked clients do not ruin it
- Chat safety, especially for younger players
- Something to do together, like events, so it is not just strangers mining alone

04How to join a public Java server
- Open the Minecraft Launcher and make sure Java Edition is set to the version the server runs. For CHEAT SMP, that is 26.3.
- Click Play, then Multiplayer.
- Click Add Server.
- Type a name and the server address:
play.cheatsmp.dev. - Click Done, select the server and click Join Server.

05Who can join CHEAT SMP
- Java Edition 26.3 on a paid (premium) account. Cracked accounts cannot join.
- Ages 13+.
- Bedrock, console and mobile: yes. Bedrock players join at
domination-approves.tun.ply.gg, port53228. - Cost: free to play. The store is cosmetic and convenience only.
The server opened to the public on Oct 30, 2026. Season 0 (Beta) runs through Nov 30, and everyone who plays gets the BETA TESTER title. See seasons.
CHEAT SMP is not affiliated with Mojang or Microsoft. It is an independent server, like every public SMP you will find in a server list.
06Rules, reports and appeals
Public servers live or die on moderation. On CHEAT SMP:
/rulesshows the server rules in game./reportflags a player to staff.- Staff can mute players, and the chat filter masks bad words automatically.
/appealis there if you think a punishment was a mistake.
The chat filter also hides phone numbers, emails, addresses and links, which matters on a 13+ server where you are talking to strangers.
07Why join during Season 0
Season 0 "Beta" runs from Oct 30 to Nov 30, 2026. There is no special rule, but everyone who plays gets the BETA TESTER title, and the top Patches earner gets BETA CHAMP. Season 1 "Most Wanted" starts Dec 1, 2026.
Joining a public SMP early has another upside: the Market Index sits around 1x while fewer than 30 players are active, and it can climb no faster than 5% a day as the server grows. More on that in the economy guide.
08Your first ten minutes
Run /survival to start the tutorial. In about 20 seconds you get Dash. Mine 10 ores, pick a Cheat Pack, use a power, set a home. Done. The full walkthrough is in SMP for beginners.
Copy the IP and jump in: play.cheatsmp.dev.
After the tutorial, claim a chunk, place a bed, and claim your /daily. Then go explore. With your PvP protection running for 30 minutes and mobs ignoring you at night for the first 10, your first session is the safest time to wander far from spawn.
