01Wait, what happened to 1.22?
Mojang changed how Minecraft versions are numbered. The announcement came in December 2025: version numbers in 2026 begin with 26. The last release on the old scheme was Java 1.21.11. There is no 1.22.
The new format is year.drop.hotfix:

Java's first release on the new scheme was 26.1 in March 2026. So 26.3 is the third Java drop of 2026.
Nothing about how the game works changed with the new numbers. It is still Java Edition, still the same launcher, still the same Multiplayer menu. The label is just easier to read: the first number tells you the year a version came out.
02Java 26.3 vs Bedrock 26.3
Both editions use the year prefix, but the rest of the number does not line up. Bedrock releases more often, so Bedrock 26.3 and Java 26.3 are different updates. If someone tells you a server is "26.3," check which edition they mean.
CHEAT SMP is Java 26.3, and Bedrock players can join through Geyser at domination-approves.tun.ply.gg, port 53228.
The same goes for searching. If you look up "26.3 server" and find Bedrock results, they will not work on a Java client, and the reverse is also true. Java servers connect by address and port in the Multiplayer menu; Bedrock uses its own Servers tab.
03How to play on a Minecraft 26.3 server
- Open the Minecraft Launcher.
- Go to Installations. The Latest release profile tracks the newest version. Or create a new installation and pick 26.3.
- Hit Play, then Multiplayer, then Add Server.
- Enter
play.cheatsmp.devas the server address. - Join. If you see an outdated client or server message, your version does not match. Switch to 26.3.

Client mods have to be updated for each new Minecraft version, and the new numbering does not change that. Some mods take time to catch up after a drop.
