10 + 12 + 12 + 6 = 40. The examples above are the ones listed publicly; /items is the full list.
Splitting them this way means no single playstyle collects everything. Explorers find chest items, fighters find mob drops, event regulars collect the event set, and anyone can craft.
02Loot chest odds: how many chests to open
About 1 in 8 loot chests has a custom item. On average that's one item per 8 chests, but luck swings both ways:

The Explorer pack is built for this: X-Ray Goggles (24 blocks, 60-second cooldown), Night Vision, Short Flight to cross terrain and Shockwave to clear mobs off a chest.
Chest luck is independent each time. Ten empty chests in a row doesn't make the eleventh more likely; it's still about 1 in 8.
03Mob drop odds: how many kills
About 1 in 50 mob kills drops one of the 12 mob-only items.

Farming tips built from the powers:
- Decoy holds mob attention for 8 seconds, so you can line up fights instead of getting swarmed.
- Shockwave hits everything within 5 blocks for 1 heart. Use it to push a group back and pick them off.
- Decoy + Shockwave is 60 Heat, leaving room for a Dash out.
04Event-only items
Six items only come from events, which means Reality Crash at 7 PM Central every night. Two are pets (Glitch Cubeling Egg and Mini Ender Kite). The others are Greeting Spark, Emote Dice, Glitch Seed and Boss Signal Flare. Finishing events wins custom items along with Patches and Gems, so showing up is the only way to collect this set.
Every night runs an event, and the last Sunday of each month is FINAL CRASH. If you're collecting the full set, those nights are your only shot at these six.

The first three are luck plus volume. Crafting is the only source you fully control.
06Craftable items
Ten items are craftable. Listed examples include Blinkstep Boots, Homeward Shard, Builder's Wand, Harvest Halo and Pocket Sorter. Check /items for the full list. Paid MAX and ULTRA plans can use /craft anywhere.
Crafting is the only source with no odds attached, which makes those 10 items the most predictable part of the collection.
07How custom items fit with everything else
CHEAT SMP has several kinds of stuff, and they come from different places. Don't mix them up:

If you want a custom item, the store isn't the route. Chests, mobs, crafting and events are.
08Common mistakes hunting custom items
- Giving up after a few chests. At 1 in 8, even 8 chests only gives about a 66% chance.
- Confusing the Decoy Doll with the Decoy power. One is a mob-drop item, the other is a core power unlocked at 70 Patches.
- Skipping events. 6 of 40 items are event-only.
- Planning around an item you haven't read. Check its entry in
/itemsfirst.
