02How do you unlock Explorer?
Reach 100 Patches, the same milestone as Shockwave. At the daily cap of 60, nobody gets there in under two days. First-week players earn +50% Patches, which helps. Then open /pack.
Explorer is a late pick by design. Most players start with Miner or Speedster for free, earn their first Patches, and come back for Explorer once they've passed Short Flight (40), Decoy (70) and Shockwave (100) on the Patch track.

The Goggles reach twice as far as Ore Ping but fire half as often. Use them as your wide scan, then fill in with Ore Ping's shorter cooldown. Two timers, no wasted overlap: move about 24 blocks between Ore Pings, and further between Goggle scans.
04Why Explorer suits chest hunting
About 1 in 8 loot chests holds one of 12 chest-only custom items, like Glider Wings, Wallrunner Soles, Anchor Pebble and Gravity Coin. Explorer is the pack that covers the most ground:
- Night Vision on the Goggles keeps dark caves readable.
- Short Flight (5 seconds, 45 Heat) crosses terrain you'd otherwise climb.
- Shockwave (5-block knockback, 35 Heat) clears mobs off a chest you're trying to open.
- X-Ray Goggles show what's in the rock around you before you dig.
Combine that with the odds: about 1 in 8 chests means a long Explorer session that opens a few dozen chests should turn up several custom items. Ore Ping at 20 Heat fills the gaps between Goggle scans while you travel.
05Explorer Heat budget
Explorer carries the two Heat-heaviest powers in one kit: Short Flight at 45 and Shockwave at 35. Together that's 80 Heat.

06Is Explorer worth waiting for?
Explorer is the most expensive pack at 100 Patches. Here's what that buys compared to the free options:

Explorer is the generalist. If you already know you love mining or moving, a free pack covers that now. If you want a bit of everything, Explorer is the 100-Patch goal.
07Explorer and WANTED
With PvP on, overheating in Survival makes you WANTED for 180 seconds. Explorers wander far, which can help: hunters only get pinged if they're within 300 blocks, and the ping points to a 64x64 area, not exact coordinates. But Flight + Shockwave at 80 is how an Explorer overheats in the first place. Don't stack them when you're already warm.
The X-Ray Goggles are listed with a 60-second cooldown rather than a Heat cost, so a WANTED Explorer can keep scouting with them while saving Heat for the powers that move.
08Common Explorer mistakes
- Spamming Goggles. 60 seconds is long. Move between scans so each one sees new rock.
- Flight + Shockwave from a warm bar. Above 20 Heat, that pair crosses 100.
- Skipping loot chests. 1 in 8 has a custom item.
- Fighting with Shockwave alone. It's 1 heart. Use it for space.
